Orders of Magnitude
About the Artwork:
American/Australian artist Kyle Griggs prepared detailed illustrations that uniquely respond to various coloured lights, to create a night activation in the window. The title, Orders of Magnitude, refers to classification systems where values are determined and referred to in relationship to each other. The subjects of Kyle’s illustrations are based around objects of space and time including stars, moons, the sun, sacred geometry, satellites, radar data, and reticle markings. By animating the clarity of the illustration with a flicking lighting sequence, and by using the color separations and overlays to complicate the order and arrangement in which the illustrations are seen, she suggests that classification systems do not necessarily have to designate systems of value, and do not have to act in a linear or fixed way.
