JAMIE EDWARD

Fruit in Sydney

2019
concrete and resin

September - October 2019

From the Curator:

I first came across Jamie’s work at the 2018 Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, before meeting him through mutual friends that same weekend. As a Tasmanian based artist, working between Bruny Island, Melbourne and now Sydney, we were so pleased to have Jamie join us with his concrete work in person. Jamie’s array of brightly coloured fruit is intriguingly tactile, with a kitsch quality and colours that pop. Moulded in concrete, dipped and set in resin, sprayed with fluorescent colour and polished to a sheen, this playful experimentation with his materials pays off. His fine art practice interrogates social issues, particularly those pertinent to modern Australia, including the tradition of ‘beer and tv’.

About the Artist:

A graduate of RMIT, Edward started his career as one half of the respected Melbourne based multidisciplinary design studio, Daisylegs. Throughout seven productive years in operation his studio worked with a wide array of clients, completing projects across Australia. Jamie’s background in design in conjunction with his active illustration and painting practise unite to produce thought provoking sculptural work filled with allegory and dark humour. Jamie's work has been featured in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart
